Permissions Differences between Calendar Sharing & Event Invitations

At BeeLilke, we want to make sure that you're able to share your calendars and events with others with the right level of control over them. That's why when you share a calendar or an event with others, you get to pick permissions for each. But what happens when those permissions are in conflict?

Understanding Event vs Calendar share permissions

When you invite someone to an event, you have the choice of giving them the rights to either read-only the event or also be able to edit it.

When you share a calendar with someone, you get to decide if they should be able to just see the availability (i.e., see scheduled events without knowing their title, description, or any other details — just the time interval), be able to read the events (i.e., seeing title, description, etc without the ability to make any modifications), or full write access (i.e., they can modify any or all properties of the event.

Difference between edit permission for event invitation and write permission for calendar sharing is that with event edit invitations the receiver can only edit the title, descriptions, invited member list, and meeting links; while the write permission on calendar means that you can edit any aspect of the event on that calendar as well as the calendar details themselves.

The write permission between calendar and event invitation is different in that editable event invitations let you everything except the time interval of the event, whereas calendar write lets you edit everything or even delete them.

Changing Permissions for Calendars

Calendar permissions are managed in the sharing center of your BeeLike dashboard. There are three levels of permissions for calendars:

Availability only: the person who you have shared the calendar with can only see your availability. This means they can see that there are blocks of time scheduled on the calendar, but they get no information about what is scheduled in those blocks of time.
Read only: the person who you have shared the calendar with can see all the details of all the events on the calendar, but they cannot modify any of those details, including the name and description of the calendar.
Full write access: the person who you have shared the calendar with can do all operations except delete the calendar itself. This use is also able to schedule new events on that calendar.

A very important thing to keep in mind is that when you share a calendar with someone, they do not see individual calendars. They just see your name and various events on the calendar to which they may have different levels of permissions.

Changing Permissions for Events

You can permissions to events by inviting people to events. You can do so by clicking directly on the event in your calendar or dashboard and selecting people you want to invite to the event.

You can also give each participant the permissions to change the details of the event such as title, description, meeting link, or invite other members.
